hello everyone and welcome to our universe today we'll be answering the question can a black hole stop time black holes are very compact objects having such a large amount of mass in a very small volume they also come in a arange of different sizes in astronomy. There are usually two types of black holes the stellar mass black holes and the supermassive black holes.
Stellar-mass black holes:
Stellar-mass black holes are created by dying stars this is a star that is more than 25 times the mass of our Sun and these will usually produce a stellar black hole for most of the star's life it lives in quite a balanced state with an outward pressure caused by the burning of its nikita fuel and this is counteracted by the inward pull of gravity by all of the mass the makes of the star however when a star is used all of its fuel it can no longer push outwards and the gravitational dominance begins the very dense core will also collapse to form a stellar black hole.
The supermassive black holes:
the supermassive black holes on the other hand are much bigger and can be billions of times the mass of our Sun they are thought to exist in the center of nearly all major galaxies and they are believed to be created by the accumulation of stellar-mass black holes this was probably happening from the early stages of the galaxy's history recent studies show that there is a third type of black hole this black hole has a mass between the stellar mass and the supermassive they are mainly referred to as an intermediate black hole so with black hole comes a hell of a lot of physics and mathematics and according to Albert Einstein's general theory of relativity space and time are not separate but instead are combined.
Space-time matter in the universe:
what is known as space-time matter in the universe such as stars and planets distort this space-time making it curved and creating a sort of gravity well this is basically what is happening when the planets go around the Sun if an object is more massive it therefore.pushes down metaphorically on the space/time combing it even more as an object becomes more massive it seems to warp space and time itself making space-time more curved when a massive star runs out of fuel its core becomes so small and so dense that we call it a singularity it is surrounded by the event horizon which marks a boundary and if this boundary is crossed the gravity will be so great that you will need to go faster than the speed of light to escape its gravitational pull so basically understanding black holes from the observational point of view and a mathematical point of view can the center of a black hole actually stop time again this goes to Einstein's famous equations space-time also affects the way we perceive time Einstein's special theory of relativity predicts that time slows down for moving objects.
compared to the stationary objects:
compared to the stationary objects and for objects that have a bigger gravitational well we actually use this understanding for the GPS systems here on earth the GPS system satellites travel are very high speeds and therefore have a slightly lower gravity than here on earth so they have to rely on very accurate clocks and these clocks can show the difference in the changing effects we can use the same example if you would visit a black hole if you could safely travel to a black hole while someone else stood outside of the event horizon and saw you as you fall into the black hole you would not see any difference and your watch would tick as normal nothing for you would appear to change however for the observer outside of the black hole watching you fall into it it would appear to themnthat your watch was slowing down as you travel further into the black hole the center of the black hole has almost infinite gravity this will eventually mean that it would appear to them as if time had stopped for you altogether since in reality we are not able to travel to a black hole we really don't know what inside of them we can only study the properties such as is mass and is using what we know from the laws of physics nevertheless a black hole is very strange our fascinating object these are cosmic mysteries that have many many more stories to be discovered so I hope that's given you a great insight into can a black hole stop time
and as always
